Turkish coast guard rescues 70 irregular migrants in Aegean Sea
Turkish Coast Guard teams conducted a successful rescue operation off the coast of Ayvacık district in Çanakkale, saving a total of 70 irregular migrants.
The Coast Guard's North Aegean Group Command responded to a distress call from a rubber dinghy experiencing engine failure, rescuing 22 irregular migrants onboard.
In a separate incident, Turkish Coast Guard rescued 48 irregular migrants from another rubber boat that had reportedly been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek forces.
The alleged pushback by Greek authorities raises concerns about potential violations of international refugee law.
All rescued migrants received medical attention and underwent identification procedures at the Foreigners Repatriation Centre in Ayvacık district. (ILKHA)
