Gas explosion in Nairobi kills 2, injures over 200
Kenya: A gas explosion ripped through Kenya's capital Nairobi on Friday, killing two people and injuring over 200, authorities said.
The explosion took place at a gas refilling company, causing substantial damage to the building. Isaac Mwaura, the government spokesperson, reported the incident on the social media platform X.
The subsequent fire engulfed a nearby textile and garment warehouse, leading to extensive damage to multiple vehicles, commercial establishments, and residential properties. Regrettably, two individuals lost their lives while receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital, and 222 others sustained injuries, as stated in Mwaura's announcement.
Emergency response units, including the Kenyan Red Cross, have admitted 271 individuals to hospitals in Nairobi.
The affected area has been secured, and a command center has been established to coordinate rescue efforts. The incident highlights the urgent need for response and recovery efforts in the aftermath of this tragic event. (ILKHA)
