EU extends sanctions against Russia until July 31

These sanctions, initially imposed in 2014 and expanded since February 2022, target Russia for its destabilizing actions in Ukraine.

The decision to extend the sanctions reflects the EU's commitment to responding to Russia's unprovoked and illegal military aggression.

The EU has consistently escalated sanctions, adopting 12 major packages since February 24, 2022, with the latest one approved in December 2023.

The 13th package is reportedly under development and expected to be revealed in February. The sanctions cover various economic sectors, including trade, finance, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport, and luxury items.

Measures include restrictions on Russian oil, barring Russian banks from SWIFT, and suspending Russian propaganda channels in the EU.

The EU aims to prevent Russia from evading sanctions through third-party countries. (ILKHA)
