Ukraine war turns into "battle of ammunition," NATO Chief says
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg issued a stark warning on Tuesday, declaring that the war in Ukraine has become a "battle of ammunition" and urging Western allies to step up military aid to the embattled nation.
Stoltenberg emphasized the need to prevent President Vladimir Putin from achieving victory in Ukraine, describing it as a tragedy for Ukrainians and a potential danger for the broader international community.
NATO announced a significant ammunition deal with Ukraine, committing to purchasing 220,000 155 mm artillery shells valued at approximately $1.2 billion. Stoltenberg highlighted the importance of this deal for defending NATO territories, building up ammunition stocks, and continuing support for Ukraine.
As the nearly two-year war has depleted Ukrainian ammunition reserves, the country has relied on assistance from Western allies for military supplies. The stalemate on the front line has heightened the urgency for additional support to bolster Ukraine's capabilities in the conflict. (ILKHA)
