Pakistan and Afghanistan reopen key border crossing after 10-day standoff

The closure caused significant economic disruption for both nations and highlighted ongoing tensions between the two neighbors.

The closure stemmed from Pakistan's new requirement for truck drivers to obtain visas, a policy that caused confusion and anger among Afghan traders who had previously crossed without such documentation.

Following talks, Pakistan agreed to temporarily suspend the visa requirement until March 31st, allowing for a grace period for drivers to comply.

The Torkham crossing has been closed several times in recent months due to various reasons, including security concerns and border fence repairs.

The reopening is expected to alleviate disruptions to trade and transit activities between the neighboring countries. (ILKHA)
