Addressing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala on Saturday, Guterres declared: "The right of the Palestinian people to build their own state must be recognized by all."

He stressed that the global recognition of the Palestinian people's right to build their own state is imperative. These comments were made in the backdrop of the ongoing genocidal war by the Israeli regime against the Gaza Strip, initiated following a resistance operation on October 7.

The indiscriminate military campaign by Israel in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 24,927 Palestinians, with the majority being women and children. Guterres warned that the refusal to recognize Palestinians' right to statehood would perpetuate a conflict that poses a significant threat to global peace and security.

Throughout the war, Israel has also engaged in sporadic attacks against Lebanon, leading to clashes with the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah. The resistance movements in Iraq and Yemen have retaliated against Israeli and American targets, expressing their opposition to the ongoing onslaught and the unequivocal military and political support provided by the United States.

In the final communiqué of the NAM summit, the movement strongly condemned the illegal Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip. The leaders assembled in Kampala called for a lasting humanitarian ceasefire and affirmed their support for the independence and sovereignty of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Non-Aligned Movement comprises 120 countries that are not aligned with any major power bloc. (ILKHA)
