Snowfall disrupts transport in eastern Türkiye; efforts to clear roads underway
Persistent snowfall and blizzard conditions in the eastern provinces of Van, Muş and Hakkari in Türkiye have led to road closures and ongoing efforts to clear the affected routes.
In Van, where adverse weather conditions have been observed for two consecutive days, the snow and blizzard have caused significant transport disruption. A total of 671 settlements have reported road closures, and snow removal crews are actively working to re-open affected routes.
A similar situation is unfolding in Hakkari, where three days of continuous rainfall have resulted in snow depths of over 2 meters in some areas. As a result, the roads of 298 settlements are currently closed, with dedicated snow clearance teams working tirelessly to clear the roads.
In Muş, 114 village roads are impassable after two days of heavy snowfall. While 104 of these roads have already been reopened, snow clearance teams are actively working to clear the remaining 10 closed village roads.
The authorities have emphasized their ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the weather conditions on transport. (ILKHA)
