US-led coalition launches airstrikes in Yemen, raising tensions
A joint military operation led by the United States, Israel, and Britain has carried out a series of airstrikes on various locations in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the provinces of Hodeidah, Saada, and Dhamar.
According to reports from the Yemeni SABA news agency in Sanaa, the American-Israeli-British coalition targeted key sites, including Al-Hudaydah Airport and areas in Zabid District along the Red Sea in Western Yemen. The raids also focused on Kahlan camp, situated east of the city of Saada in northern Yemen.
The Pentagon has confirmed that the military action aimed at 12 different locations in Yemen, employing a combination of warplanes, cruise missiles, and submarines. Notably, the United Kingdom, with support from Australia, the Netherlands, Bahrain, and Canada, participated in the strikes, providing logistical, intelligence, and other forms of assistance.
Yemeni sources had earlier reported preparations to counter the anticipated aggression, with Deputy Head of the Moral Guidance Department in the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, Brigadier Abdullah ben Amer, highlighting significant readiness to face the US-British offensive.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns rising over the implications of this military intervention in the already volatile region. Further details on the objectives and consequences of the airstrikes are expected to emerge in the coming hours. (ILKHA)
