Laylat al-Raghaib marked with devotion at Istanbul's Sultanahmet Mosque
Hundreds of Muslims gathered at the iconic Sultanahmet Mosque in Istanbul to celebrate Laylat al-Raghaib, the blessed night that marks the beginning of the holy month of Rajab.
The event, organised by the Istanbul Mufti's Office, was marked by heartfelt prayers, recitations from the Quran and insightful reflections.
Laylat al-Raghaib, which translates as 'Night of Wishes', is considered in Islam to be a night of immense blessings and forgiveness.
The Deputy Provincial Mufti of Istanbul, Metin Akbaş, emphasised this significance in his address, reminding the faithful of the unique opportunity this night offers for spiritual enrichment and repentance.
Akbaş posed introspective questions, urging worshippers to examine their priorities and assess their alignment with Islamic values. He stressed the importance of aligning worldly life with faith, and asked whether worldly distractions were overshadowing spiritual pursuits.
Akbaş reminded the congregation of the exemplary life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and stressed the importance of aligning one's life with his teachings. He encouraged the participants to reflect on their social behaviour and to dedicate this night to sincere repentance and increased devotional practices.
The Laylat al-Raghaib celebration in Sultanahmet was a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, community and self-reflection. The gathering concluded with a moving prayer by the Fatih District Mufti, Hüseyin Baş, leaving participants with a renewed sense of hope and spiritual purpose. (ILKHA)
