Russian forces launch deadly attack on Donetsk oblast, killing 11, including children
Russian forces carried out a devastating attack on Donetsk Oblast on Saturday, resulting in the death of 11 people, including five children, and injuring eight civilians, as reported by Donetsk Oblast Governor Vadym Filashkin.
The onslaught, carried out with S-300 missiles, targeted the town of Pokrovsk and the Myrnohrad community, leading to the destruction of at least six houses. The governor did not specify the number of missiles employed by Russia in the assault.
S-300s, originally designed for air defense during the Soviet era, have been repurposed by Russia to attack targets in Ukraine, albeit with poor accuracy compared to other missiles.
Pokrovsk, situated approximately 40 kilometers from the eastern front line and near the administrative border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, bore the brunt of the assault.
Emergency services are actively engaged at the scene, according to Governor Filashkin. In the aftermath of the attack, he reported the successful rescue of one person from the rubble.
Earlier on the same day, Russian forces targeted the Pivnichne community with two aerial bombs, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuring another. Pivnichne, located on the outskirts of Toretsk, has frequently been subjected to Russian attacks as a front-line town.
The situation continues to unfold, and authorities are assessing the extent of the damage while providing assistance to the affected communities. (ILKHA)
