Türkiye expresses concern over Ethiopia-Somaliland agreement
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Öncü Keçeli, has voiced concern over the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Partnership and Cooperation signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland on January 1, 2024.
The agreement was inked in Addis Ababa without the knowledge and consent of the Government of Somalia.
Türkiye, in its official statement, reaffirms its commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Turkish position aligns with international law principles.
The spokesperson emphasized the importance of settling disputes between Somalia and Somaliland through direct negotiations among the parties involved. Türkiye supports initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue and understanding between the two entities.
The signing of the MoU has raised diplomatic concerns, and Turkey advocates for peaceful resolutions to ensure stability and cooperation in the region. (ILKHA)
