According to the PCBS statement, a staggering 22,404 Palestinians lost their lives in 2023. This grim milestone includes 22,141 fatalities since the onset of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza on October 7.

A striking 98 percent of the total casualties were from the Gaza Strip, encompassing nearly 9,000 children and 6,450 women, as reported by PCBS.

In the occupied West Bank, 319 Palestinians, including 111 children and four women, fell victim to the conflict, according to data sourced from the Palestinian health ministry.

As of the last day of 2023, over 7,000 Palestinians, predominantly children and women, have been reported missing.

The Israeli aggression against Gaza forced over 1.9 million Palestinians to flee their homes, contributing to the widespread displacement in the region.

PCBS also referenced information from the Palestinian Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs, indicating that Israeli occupation forces detained thousands of Palestinians in 2023. By the end of November, around 7,800 detainees, including 76 women and 260 children, were held in Israeli jails. Additionally, the number of administrative detainees reached 2,870 prisoners.

The health ministry in Gaza reported the latest official statistics, revealing that 21,822 Palestinians have been killed, and 56,451 others wounded in Israel's ongoing genocidal war on Gaza.

Both Palestinian and international estimates emphasize that the majority of the casualties are women and children, underscoring the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. (ILKHA)
