The incident occurred as the convoy returned from northern Gaza, following a route designated by the israeli army.

Thomas White, UNRWA's director in Gaza, expressed concern over the incident, stating: "Israeli soldiers fired at an aid convoy as it returned from northern Gaza along a route designated by the Israeli army." While the international convoy leader and the team were unharmed, one vehicle sustained damage. White emphasized that "aid workers should never be a target."

Highlighting the dire situation in Gaza, the Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza warned of the looming risk of catastrophic starvation, as 40% of the population is on the brink of famine. The Gaza Strip is in desperate need of increased aid, and a humanitarian ceasefire is considered the only remaining hope.

UNRWA had previously reported the martyrdom of dozens of its employees in Gaza since the start of the Israeli aggression on October 7. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the unprecedented number of UNRWA employees killed in the Israeli aggression as historic.

The brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza has persisted for 84 consecutive days, resulting in heinous massacres against civilians, predominantly women and children. The Palestinian death toll since October 7 has risen to over 21,300, with more than 55,000 wounded, according to Health Ministry. (ILKHA)
