Cuba's President Diaz-Canel calls for end to Gaza genocide

In a statement on X, Diaz-Canel expressed deep concern over the prolonged violence, which has persisted for more than two-and-a-half months.

"The genocide committed by the terrorist state of Israel in Gaza is a humiliation for all humanity. How long will there be impunity? How long will there be a free way to murder? Cuba, which will never be among the indifferent, raises its voice for Palestine again and again," stated President Diaz-Canel.

Cuba, a staunch supporter of Palestine, has consistently condemned the violence in the region. The Cuban Parliament declared solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasizing its opposition to the indiscriminate bombardments carried out by Israel since October 7.

On December 20, the Cuban Congress issued a resolution condemning "the killing of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, more than 70% of them children and women." The document attributed the current situation to 75 years of Israeli practices involving illegal occupation and colonization, violating the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

The resolution also pointed to what it termed as "the complicity of the United States government with this genocide," accusing it of obstructing actions by the UN Security Council through the power of veto.

The document concluded that the impunity with which Israel has acted is perceived to be due to the support of the United States government. The call for an end to the conflict and condemnation of Israel's actions is part of Cuba's ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause. (ILKHA)
