Turkish authorities crack down on migrant smuggling in nationwide operation
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya revealed the outcomes of Operation Kalkan-4, conducted across 37 provinces, aimed at combating migrant smuggling and irregular migration.
In a statement on X, Yerlikaya said that a total of 192 migrant smuggling organizers and 4,568 irregular migrants were apprehended during the operations.
“Within the scope of Kalkan-4 operations carried out against migrant smuggling organizers and irregular migrants in 37 provinces, 192 migrant smuggling organizers and 4,568 irregular migrants were caught,” he stated.
The operations took place in numerous provinces, including Adana, Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, and others. Among the detained individuals, 41 were arrested, judicial control decisions were issued for 7, while proceedings for the rest are still ongoing.
Operation Kalkan-4 reflects Türkiye's commitment to addressing the issue of irregular migration and cracking down on those involved in smuggling activities. (ILKHA)
