UNRWA condemns targeting of Gaza headquarters as deliberate act by israeli forces
The spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip, Adnan Abu Hasna, said that the israeli army's targeting of the UNRWA headquarters was not accidental, condemning the deliberate actions as unacceptable.
In a recorded interview on the United Nations website, Abu Hasna stated: "The Israeli forces' attack on the Al-Fakhoura school, an agency facility in northern Gaza, resulting in the loss of more than 200 lives and numerous injuries, signifies a new catastrophe for the Palestinians, pushing them back to point zero."
Highlighting the repeated targeting of the Al-Fakhoura school, Abu Hasna noted its history of being attacked in 2008 and 2014, causing casualties among Palestinians. He emphasized that such schools serve as shelter centers, accommodating thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of displaced individuals, with approximately 830,000 displaced persons currently spread across 154 shelter centers.
Regarding fuel supplies, Abu Hasna confirmed the existence of a specific agreement, led by a United Nations agency with support from UNRWA and other international agencies. He underscored the critical role of humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip, requiring 160,000 liters of fuel daily to sustain essential services for desalination plants, sewage treatment facilities, hospitals, and municipal wells.
Expressing the gravity of the situation, Abu Hasna stated: "I have never seen in my life the complete removal of entire neighborhoods from existence in the city of Gaza." He described the displacement of people who have been the original inhabitants of Gaza for thousands of years, now turned refugees in a new city.
It is noteworthy that over the past 45 days, the zionist occupation army has continued its destructive actions in the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in approximately 12,300 casualties, including 5,000 children and 3,300 women, with over 30,000 individuals sustaining injuries, according to the latest Palestinian official statistics issued on Saturday evening.
