Shortages of food, water, and medicine, dwindling fuel for hospitals and water facilities, overcrowded UNRWA shelters facing bombardments, overflowing morgues, and depleted stores have led to an abysmal sanitation situation. Moreover, the escalating health issues, especially among children, have added to the trauma experienced by the entire population.

Calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, Guterres stressed the urgent need to adhere to international humanitarian law, protecting civilians, medical workers, and vital infrastructure. He urged unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, highlighting the critical requirement for essential supplies and services in the face of the escalating crisis.
