Altun issued a statement via a social media platform, expressing deep concern over the deaths of journalists during the ongoing conflict.

"Regrettably, 38 journalists have lost their lives in israel's heavy attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023," Altun wrote in his social media post, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Altun decried the significant loss of lives, encompassing not only journalists but also children, women, the elderly, and healthcare workers. He emphasized that these events marked the pinnacle of human rights violations, where the freedom of the press and the fundamental right to access information were disregarded, obstructed, and tragically resulted in the deaths of journalists fulfilling their professional duties.

"The international community, as well as media organizations, must raise their voices against this disgraceful humanitarian crisis and vehemently denounce the killings of press members in the line of their duty," Altun stated.

Amid discussions about press freedom and expression, Altun underlined the critical importance of the right to life, emphasizing the extent of brutality witnessed. He stressed that protecting the rights and ensuring the safety of journalists working in Gaza is a responsibility shared by all who believe in democracy and freedom.

"In a moment of tribute, we honor the lives lost among the press and civilian population, calling for an immediate cessation of these attacks," Altun concluded, advocating for an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. (ILKHA)
