WHO Chief urges humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza to prevent patient deaths
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has issued a dire plea for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza to avert a growing health crisis.
He expressed grave concern over the severe lack of health and humanitarian aid, warning that thousands of patients are at risk of death in the current situation.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Ghebreyesus emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, decrying the existing conditions in Gaza as a "cease-food, cease-water, cease-fuel, cease-care" reality imposed on its residents.
"We must find a way to a cease-fire instead of the current reality of cease-food, cease-water, cease-fuel, cease-care imposed on Gazans," Ghebreyesus added, underscoring the pressing need for immediate action to address the crisis.
The call for a humanitarian ceasefire comes amid escalating tensions in the region and a severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, where essential supplies and medical assistance are in critically short supply.
The WHO's chief is urging the international community to take swift action to prevent a further deterioration of the health and humanitarian situation in the area. (ILKHA)
