WHO urges immediate Gaza ceasefire for vital medical supplies

According to WHO, six hospitals in Gaza have already been forced to shut down due to fuel shortages, while others are either overcrowded or functioning at partial capacity.

Critical Patients at Risk

The situation is dire, with approximately 1,000 dialysis patients, 130 premature babies, and individuals in intensive care units facing severe risks if the necessary fuel and medical supplies do not reach them promptly. The United Nations agency has reported that some surgeries have been performed without anesthesia due to the scarcity of critical medical resources.

Emergency Fuel Delivery

On Monday, a shipment of around 9,000 gallons of fuel was delivered to four major hospitals in southern Gaza and to the Palestine Red Crescent Society. This amount of fuel is estimated to sustain ambulances and essential hospital functions for approximately 24 hours, as stated by WHO.

The appeal from WHO underscores the urgent need for a ceasefire to ensure that Gaza's healthcare facilities receive the necessary support to save lives and provide essential medical care. (ILKHA)
