Drone attack targets U.S. bases in Iraq
A series of drone attacks targeted U.S. bases in Iraq over the past 24 hours, resulting in injuries to coalition forces.
These attacks occurred against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions following a deadly israeli attack on a hospital in Gaza.
“In the last 24 hours, the U.S. military defended against three drones near U.S. and Coalition forces in Iraq. In western Iraq, U.S. forces engaged two drones, destroying one and damaging the second, resulting in minor injuries to Coalition forces. Separately in northern Iraq, U.S. forces engaged and destroyed a drone, resulting in no injuries or damage. We are continuing to assess the impacts to operations,” U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
"In this moment of heightened alert, we are vigilantly monitoring the situation in Iraq and the region. U.S. forces will defend U.S. and coalition forces against any threat," the statement added.
The drone attacks come in the wake of increasing tensions in the region, with the recent Israeli airstrike on a Gaza hospital contributing to the prevailing unrest. (ILKHA)
