WHO warns of looming humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza's health system

The agency emphasized that urgent delivery of fuel and life-saving health and humanitarian supplies is essential as Gaza remains under a complete blockade.

Hospitals in Gaza are facing a dire situation, with only a few hours of electricity each day due to dwindling fuel reserves and heavy reliance on generators for critical functions. This situation is expected to worsen in the coming days when fuel stocks run out, posing a severe threat to the most vulnerable patients, including those in need of life-saving surgery.

As the ongoing airstrikes on Gaza lead to a surge in injuries and fatalities, the shortage of medical supplies exacerbates the crisis, limiting the capacity of already stretched hospitals to respond effectively.

The WHO reported 34 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza since last Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 11 health workers, 16 injuries, and damage to 19 health facilities and 20 ambulances.

Without immediate humanitarian aid, particularly in the form of health services, medical supplies, food, clean water, fuel, and non-food items, humanitarian and health partners will be unable to meet the urgent needs of the people in Gaza. (ILKHA)
