UNRWA warns of humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, urges opening of safe corridors for aid
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) issued a stark warning on Wednesday, emphasizing that the Gaza Strip faces an imminent humanitarian catastrophe unless safe corridors for aid are opened.
Adnan Abu Hasna, the spokesperson for UNRWA, conveyed the urgent need for safe passage to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, and water.
With zionist regime persistently closing all border crossings to the Gaza Strip, the entry of critical humanitarian aid remains impossible. Abu Hasna stressed the gravity of the situation, stating: “The coming hours will see Gaza run out of fuel and hospitals out of service. Continuation of the situation means that the Gaza Strip will be without food within two weeks.”
On Tuesday, UNRWA reported that over 175,000 people in Gaza sought refuge in 88 of its schools. The agency highlighted that this number is steadily increasing due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes.
The israeli decision to cut off water and electricity supplies to the already-blockaded Gaza Strip, coupled with the blocking of entry for essential humanitarian supplies and preventing residents from leaving for safety, has drawn global condemnation.
Accusations of war crimes have been levied against israel for these actions, adding to the mounting concerns about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. (ILKHA)
