Hamas launches rocket barrage at Ashkelon following deadline for evacuation
The military wing of Hamas, the Al-Qassam Brigades, launched a rocket barrage towards the city of Ashkelon at 5 PM local time on Tuesday.
This action came in response to a deadline set by the group for residents to evacuate the city.
In a statement, the Al-Qassam Brigades warned: "The deadline has ended... You have been warned." This attack is seen as a response to the targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Spokesperson Abu Ubaida explained that this decision to launch the rocket barrage was taken in retaliation for "the enemy's crime of displacing our people and forcing them to evacuate their homes in several areas of the Gaza Strip."
On Monday, Abu Ubaida had emphasized that the Israeli Occupation government and its forces were exerting threats and pressure in an attempt to compel the Al-Qassam Brigades into negotiations regarding prisoners while under fire.
The situation in the region remains tense as both sides engage in hostilities, with concerns rising over the safety and well-being of civilians caught in the crossfire. (ILKHA)
