Iran discovers four new oil and gas fields
Iran has discovered four new oil and gas fields in the past two years, with recoverable reserves of 2.6 billion barrels, Oil Minister Javad Owji announced on Wednesday.
The newly discovered fields are located in the northeastern, northern, and southern provinces of Iran. They include the Cheshmehshour gas field, the Hirkan oilfield, and the Tengoo and Genaveh oilfields.
Owji said that Iran ranks first in terms of hydrocarbon explorations among regional countries.
Iran sits on the world's third-largest oil and second-largest gas reserves respectively, according to a January report by the Energy Information Administration affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy.
The discovery of the new fields is a positive development for Iran, as it could help to boost the country's oil and gas production and exports. (ILKHA)
