The MoD said in a statement that the airstrikes were carried out in the Metina, Gara, Hakurk, Kandil, and Asos regions of northern Iraq, and that the targets included caves, bunkers, shelters, and warehouses.

The statement also said that the operation was carried out in line with the right of self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The PKK is a Kurdish militant group that has been fighting for an independent Kurdish state in Turkey for decades. Turkey considers the PKK to be a terrorist organization.

The MoD said that the airstrikes were aimed at neutralizing PKK/KCK and other elements, eliminating attacks against the people and security forces from northern Iraq, and ensuring border security.

The airstrikes are the latest in a series of Turkish operations against the PKK in northern Iraq. Turkey has long argued that the PKK uses northern Iraq as a base for its attacks against Turkey.

The airstrikes come just days after a suicide attack in Ankara that killed two people and wounded several others. The PKK claimed responsibility for the attack. (ILKHA)
