Turkish coast guard rescues 175 irregular migrants pushed back by Greek forces

The incidents unfolded off the coasts of Izmir, Aydın, Muğla, and Çanakkale, revealing a concerning surge in irregular migrant activity.

In response to reports indicating the presence of irregular migrants in life rafts, Coast Guard boats were swiftly dispatched to the affected regions in six separate incidents. The operations culminated in the safe retrieval of 175 individuals who had been pushed into Turkish waters by Greek elements.

Moreover, an additional 20 irregular migrants were apprehended in Izmir, further underscoring the intensity of the migrant activity along the Turkish coasts.

Following the rescue operations, the irregular migrants were carefully brought ashore and subsequently handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management to undergo necessary procedures.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges and complexities faced by both Turkish and Greek authorities in managing irregular migration flows, as well as the critical role played by the Turkish Coast Guard in safeguarding the lives of those caught in perilous situations at sea.
