US Secretary of State speaks with Azerbaijani President Aliyev on Nagorno-Karabakh situation
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday to urge him to cease military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh immediately and deescalate the situation.
In a statement, the State Department said that Blinken also emphasized the need for Azerbaijan to refrain from further hostilities and provide unhindered humanitarian access to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Blinken pressed Aliyev to assure the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh of their safety and security within their homes while ensuring the protection of their rights.
He also called for a commitment from Aliyev towards a comprehensive amnesty and urged the allowance of an international observer mission into Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Secretary of State acknowledged President Aliyev's public commitments to fostering a future in Nagorno-Karabakh rooted in principles of peace, mutual understanding, and mutual respect. (ILKHA)
