Death toll from Dengue outbreak exceeds 900 in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is grappling with a severe outbreak of dengue fever, with the death toll surpassing a grim milestone of 900, according to official figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health.
The outbreak has resulted in a staggering 187,725 reported cases across the country so far this year.
The data from DGHS reveals that the dengue-related fatalities occurred throughout the year, with 316 deaths reported in September, 342 in August, and 204 in July.
In September alone, 63,917 new dengue cases have been recorded, following 71,976 cases in August and 43,854 cases in July.
The situation remains dire, as the country reported an additional 16 deaths and 3,008 new infections in the last 24 hours, as of 8:00 a.m. local time on Sunday.
While the numbers are alarming, there is a silver lining in the form of 176,346 recovered patients so far this year, offering hope amid the crisis.
Bangladesh experiences a surge in dengue cases during the monsoon season, which spans from June to September.
The country is considered high-risk for this mosquito-borne disease, and health authorities are working tirelessly to combat the outbreak.
The government and health organizations continue to take measures to control the spread of dengue fever, including mosquito control efforts and public awareness campaigns.
The situation remains fluid, and efforts are ongoing to mitigate the impact of this deadly disease on the population. (ILKHA)
