Azerbaijani and Armenian leader to hold meeting in Spain on October 5
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are set to convene for a pre-arranged meeting in Spain next month, as announced by Yerevan on Sunday.
The pivotal talks, scheduled for October 5 in Grenada, will see the participation of prominent international figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and EU Chief Charles Michel, as disclosed by the Armenian security council in a statement. The officials will also convene next week to prepare for these critical discussions.
France, Germany, and the European Union have played significant roles in the ongoing efforts to resolve the long-standing conflict surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh.
This ethnically Armenian region is formally recognized as part of Azerbaijan on the international stage, but it has been under the governance of a separatist administration for over three decades.
Under the terms of a ceasefire agreement reached on Wednesday, the separatist rebels in Nagorno-Karabakh have agreed to disarm, marking a potential turning point in the protracted conflict.
The upcoming meeting in Spain follows the previous encounter between Pashinyan and Aliyev, which took place in July in Brussels.
This gathering holds substantial importance in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting peace in the region. (ILKHA)
