Today marks the 31st anniversary of a devastating incident that shook the community in Diyarbakır's Silvan district.

Hanifi Poyraz and Fuat Yaşasın, two young individuals, were tragically killed in an attack by PKK militants, leaving an indelible mark on the memories of their loved ones and the local populace.

Founded in 1978, the PKK has been responsible for numerous acts of violence since the 1980s, targeting not only security forces but also innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. Their indiscriminate attacks have caused immeasurable pain to thousands of families over the years.

Fuat Yaşasın, born in 1976 in Diyarbakır's Silvan district, was the grandson of a respected scholar. He developed a strong interest in Islamic studies during his school years and was known for his scientific curiosity and exemplary moral character.

His friend, Hanifi Poyraz, three years his senior, hailed from a well-off family. Poyraz was introduced to the Islamic cause during his middle school years and was recognized for his eloquence, kindness, and impeccable manners.

On September 19, 1992, tragedy struck as Hanifi Poyraz and Fuat Yaşasın fell victim to a heinous attack near Silvan Municipality. The young men were pursued and ultimately attacked by individuals with treacherous intentions.

Fuat Yaşasın was only 16 years old at the time of his martyrdom, while Hanifi Poyraz was 19. Their untimely deaths left a void in their families' lives and a lasting scar on the community's collective memory.

Despite the passage of three decades since their tragic loss, the memories of Hanifi Poyraz and Fuat Yaşasın remain vivid in the hearts of those who knew them and the community at large. Their lives and the circumstances of their untimely deaths serve as a solemn reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the region and the profound impact of violence on innocent lives. (ILKHA)
