These young individuals had been captured while fighting alongside the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia in previous battles.

“In compliance with international humanitarian laws, human rights laws, and the law of child protection, the Sudanese Armed Forces this morning in Omdurman handed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) thirty under-aged children (below 18 years) who were captured by the Sudanese Armed Forces while fighting alongside the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia in previous battles for the international organization to hand them over to the National Council for Children’s Welfare to hand them to their families,” The Sudanese Army said an official statement.

This action underscores Sudan's commitment to upholding international standards regarding the treatment of child soldiers and protecting the rights of minors involved in armed conflicts.

The ICRC will play a crucial role in facilitating the safe return of these children to their families, ensuring their well-being and reintegration into society. (ILKHA)
