Bovine animal population in Türkiye decreases in June

The number of cattle decreased by 2.0% to 16 million 521 thousand heads, while the number of buffalo declined by 2.9% to 167 thousand heads.

The number of sheep and goats also decreased in June, by 4.7% to 53 million 274 thousand heads. The number of sheep decreased to 42 million 565 thousand heads, and the number of goats decreased to 10 million 709 thousand heads.

The decrease in the number of bovine animals is likely due to a combination of factors, including the high cost of feed, the drought in some parts of the country, and the outbreak of livestock diseases.

The Turkish government has taken some measures to address the decline in the livestock population, such as providing subsidies to farmers and increasing the number of veterinary services. However, more needs to be done to ensure the sustainability of the livestock sector in Türkiye. (ILKHA)
