Afghanistan aims to promote domestic drug production
Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, the Acting Head of National Food and Drug Administration (NFDA), met with representatives from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to address pressing issues concerning the quality and utilization of domestically produced drugs in Afghanistan.
In a candid discussion, Dr. Omar underscored the paramount importance of healthcare institutions, including MSF, embracing and utilizing medicines manufactured within Afghanistan.
The agenda also encompassed the importation of foreign pharmaceuticals to Afghanistan, while actively engaging with the challenges and recommendations put forth by MSF.
Filipe Ribeiro, the dedicated representative of MSF in Afghanistan, acknowledged the significance of prioritizing Afghan-produced drugs and pledged to facilitate discussions on this crucial matter with fellow officials within the organization.
Notably, Afghanistan has witnessed the establishment of several drug production companies in recent years, all of which operate in strict compliance with international quality standards.
This highlights the promising potential for the production of high-quality pharmaceuticals on a domestic scale, promising improved healthcare outcomes for the nation.
As Afghanistan continues to navigate its healthcare landscape, the collaborative efforts of its regulatory bodies and humanitarian organizations like MSF serve as a beacon of hope for the nation's healthcare future.
