Palestine calls for international protection amid escalating settler violence
The State of Palestine has called on the international community to provide international protection for the Palestinian people and take urgent measures to enhance accountability.
In a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly, Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that "the time has come to put an end to the shameful plans of the extremist and racist Israeli government, which threaten another Nakba against the Palestinian people."
Mansour said that israeli settler violence has been on the rise in recent months, with terrorist settlers attacking Palestinian civilians and the occupation army continuing to assault safe towns and villages. He also pointed to the policy of punitive house demolitions and land seizures.
Mansour warned that the ongoing failure to ensure accountability will only encourage those with racist, abhorrent, and criminal agendas. He said that “Israel's crimes have continued unabated in the absence of any meaningful accountability or action by the international community, including the Security Council.”
Mansour concluded by saying that accountability alone can put an end to this unlawful situation and revive prospects for justice and peace.
The call for international protection comes amid a surge in settler violence in the occupied West Bank. In recent weeks, there have been a number of attacks on Palestinian civilians, including the killing of a Palestinian teenager. (ILKHA)
