The interim leader of Ennahda, Mondher Ounissi, was taken into police custody, followed shortly by Abdel Karim Harouni, who had been placed under house arrest earlier this week, according to the party's statement.

Abdel Karim Harouni serves as the head of the Shoura Council, the highest-ranking body within Ennahda. Ennahda was the largest political party in the parliament dissolved by President Saied in 2021.

This year has witnessed a series of arrests targeting Ennahda members, including the party's leader, Rached Ghannouchi, a prominent critic of President Saied.

Additionally, the government has imposed a ban on meetings at all Ennahda offices, with police shutting down party offices, a move that Ennahda says is aimed at solidifying a dictatorial regime.

Throughout the year, several prominent political figures critical of President Saied have been detained. Critics have accused Saied of orchestrating a coup by dissolving the elected parliament in 2021 and subsequently governing by decree while working to rewrite the constitution. (ILKHA)
