Türkiye’s Economic Coordination Board discusses energy and inflation

The members of the EKK discussed the general outlook on energy, which is an important issue that Türkiye has a deficit in foreign trade. They also discussed the details of Türkiye's comprehensive road map to reduce its dependence on foreign energy and ensure its energy security.

The EKK members reiterated that ensuring price stability remains their top priority. They said that they aim to establish disinflation as soon as possible and bring inflation down to single-digit levels in the medium term.

The EKK also discussed the preparation process for the Medium-Term Program (MTP), which is planned to be shared with the public in September. They evaluated the priority structural reforms to be included in the MTP.

The EKK meeting was attended by the ministers of finance, treasury, industry and technology, energy and natural resources, agriculture and forestry, and environment and urbanization.

In addition to the ministers, the meeting was also attended by the governor of the Central Bank of Türkiye and the heads of other relevant institutions.

The EKK is a high-level body that is responsible for coordinating economic policies in Türkiye. It is chaired by the Vice President and is composed of the ministers of finance, treasury, industry and technology, energy and natural resources, agriculture and forestry, and environment and urbanization. The governor of the Central Bank of Türkiye and the heads of other relevant institutions also attend the meetings of the EKK.

The EKK meeting comes at a time when Türkiye is facing high inflation. The annual inflation rate in Türkiye was 78.62% in June 2023. The EKK members have said that they are committed to ensuring price stability and that they will take all necessary measures to bring inflation down. (ILKHA)
