US military aircraft crashes off the coast of Darwin, Australia
A US military aircraft carrying approximately 20 US Marines crashed off the coast of Darwin, Australia on Sunday.
The aircraft, a V-22 Osprey helicopter, was participating in Exercise Predator's Run 2023, a joint military exercise between the United States and Australia.
The crash occurred on Melville Island, north of Darwin. One individual is in critical condition, two are in stable condition, and no fatalities have been reported.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed his concerns and affirmed his government's commitment to extending support during this challenging time.
The Australian Defense Force is leading the investigation into the crash.
This incident comes at a time of increasing military collaboration between the United States and Australia, as China's assertiveness in the Pacific region prompts both nations to strengthen their partnership.
In a related note, the recent military exercises have been marred by tragedy, as four Australian soldiers lost their lives last month due to a helicopter crash into the ocean off the coast of Queensland.
The Australian government has said that it will continue to work closely with the United States to ensure the safety of all personnel involved in military exercises. (ILKHA)
