The attack took place in the southern region of Idlib province and was carried out by the Ansar Al-Tawhid group and the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP). Both groups are affiliated with the Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) militant group, which controls large parts of Idlib province.

The militants detonated explosives placed in tunnels that had been dug beneath army positions, followed by a simultaneous assault launched from other tunnel networks. Two militants were also killed in the attack.

The attack comes amid a recent escalation in violence in northwest Syria. In recent weeks, there have been a number of clashes between HTS and government forces, as well as Russian airstrikes on HTS-held areas.

The Syrian conflict has been ongoing for over a decade and has caused a staggering death toll of over 500,000 people. Millions of people have also been displaced from their homes.

The United Nations has called for an end to the violence in Syria and for a political solution to the conflict. However, so far, there has been no progress towards a peaceful resolution. (ILKHA)
