4.2 magnitude earthquake strikes eastern Türkiye
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Kiğı district in Türkiye's eastern Bingöl province, according to the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency.
The earthquake occurred at approximately 11:19 AM local time, with its epicenter located at 39.198 degrees north latitude and 40.312 degrees east longitude. The quake had a depth of 8.47 km.
As of now, there have been no immediate reports of any damages or casualties resulting from the earthquake. Authorities and local disaster response teams are actively monitoring the situation and assessing any potential impact.
This incident follows a particularly devastating seismic event on February 6, when a pair of powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 struck southern Turkey and northern Syria.
Tragically, the aftermath of these earlier quakes resulted in a combined death toll of over 51,000 in Turkey and Syria.
In the wake of these disasters, numerous survivors have been grappling with the harsh reality of homelessness, exacerbated by the near-freezing winter temperatures in both countries' cities. (ILKHA)
