Turkish security forces thwart entry of 143,000 irregular migrants
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Tuesday that security forces have successfully thwarted the entry of 143,000 irregular migrants into Türkiye this year.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for officers and noncommissioned officers from the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy, President Erdogan provided an update on the nation's immigration measures.
In addition to the prevention of irregular migrant entries, Erdogan shared that the country had carried out the deportation of around 25,000 migrants. Furthermore, he revealed that within the past two and a half months alone, Turkish authorities had been holding a total of 61,000 irregular migrants, underscoring the ongoing challenges in managing migratory movements.
Erdogan underscored Türkiye's commitment to repatriating Syrian citizens, noting a crucial strategy in achieving this goal. He highlighted the construction of permanent residences in northern Syria aimed at facilitating a voluntary, dignified, and secure return for Syrians. These housing projects, supported financially by Qatar, are poised to make a significant impact. Erdogan expressed his optimism that the initiative could pave the way for nearly 1 million Syrian individuals to return to their homeland under more favorable conditions.
At present, Türkiye shoulders the responsibility of providing sanctuary to approximately 4 million Syrian refugees. The nation's efforts to manage migration and offer a dignified resolution to the Syrian refugee crisis remain key priorities on the global stage. (ILKHA)
