Turkish non-domestic producer price index sees significant annual and monthly increases
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Monday that the Non-Domestic Producer Price Index (ND-PPI) increased by 60.32% annually and 15.34% monthly in July 2023.
The ND-PPI is a measure of the prices paid by producers for domestically produced goods and services. The annual increase of 60.32% was the highest since March 2023. The monthly increase of 15.34% was also the highest since March 2023.
The increase in the ND-PPI was driven by higher prices for energy, intermediate goods, and durable consumer goods. The prices of energy goods increased by 22.42% annually, while the prices of intermediate goods increased by 53.70% annually. The prices of durable consumer goods increased by 67.95% annually.
The increase in the ND-PPI is a sign of the continued high inflation in Turkey. Inflation in Turkey has been above 20% for the past several months. The high inflation is putting a strain on household budgets and businesses.
The Turkish government has taken some steps to try to control inflation, such as raising interest rates. However, it remains to be seen whether these measures will be effective in bringing inflation down.
In the meantime, businesses and consumers are likely to continue to face higher prices. This could lead to a slowdown in economic activity. (ILKHA)
