Türkiye and Hungary foster strong relations, strengthened by historic ties, says Erdogan
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan underscored the enduring and robust relationship between Türkiye and Hungary during his visit to Budapest on Sunday.
In a post on the social media platform X, Erdogan highlighted the deep-rooted and firm friendship ties that bind the two nations, citing remarkable progress across all aspects of their partnership.
Erdogan's visit, strategically timed with Hungary's National Day festivities and the World Athletics Championships, held special significance. Notably, he pointed out that the bilateral trade volume between the countries reached a historic high of $3.5 billion in 2022. He expressed confidence that, through collaborative efforts, the ambitious target of a $6 billion trade volume will be achieved swiftly.
Anticipating positive outcomes from his visit, Erdogan expressed his hope for the further enrichment of bilateral relations.
During his stay, President Erdogan held separate discussions with Hungarian counterparts, Katalin Novak and Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Conversations ranged from bilateral affairs to discussions of broader regional and global developments.
Participating in Hungary's National Day reception, Erdogan was met with warmth from citizens who enthusiastically displayed their affection for him.
Adding to his itinerary, Erdogan also witnessed the gripping men's 100 meters final at the National Athletics Centre stadium, where he engaged with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
On the sidelines, Erdogan engaged in meetings with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik (presiding over Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity), and Zeljka Cvijanovic, a representative in Bosnia's tripartite collective presidency. These discussions encompassed bilateral connections, as well as broader regional and global concerns.
Elevated to the status of a strategic partnership in 2013 through the establishment of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, the relationship between Turkey and Hungary has gathered momentum across various domains in recent years.
Significantly, both nations are gearing up to celebrate the centennial anniversary of their diplomatic ties this coming December, a testament to their enduring friendship and shared history. (ILKHA)
