Yılmaz made the statement at the TOBB Türkiye Economy Council. He said that the economy grew despite the challenges posed by the earthquake disaster and the adverse financial conditions in Türkiye.

Yılmaz said that the government is implementing an incomes policy in line with the inflation target to support gradual monetary tightening. He said that the goal is to reduce inflation to single digits in the medium term.

Yılmaz also said that the government will spend 762 billion Turkish liras from the central government budget this year to heal the wounds of the earthquake.

He said that the Turkish economy has distinguished itself positively from many other countries with its strong production and export capability. He said that total employment increased by 265 thousand people in June compared to the same month of the previous year and reached around 31 million 700 thousand.

Yılmaz also said that the real sector confidence index increased by two points in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of the year. He said that the share of medium-high and high-tech product exports in manufacturing industry exports, which was 37 percent in 2022, increased to 41 percent in the first 7 months of this year.

Yılmaz's statements come as the Turkish economy faces a number of challenges, including high inflation, a weak lira, and a slowing growth rate. The government is hoping to implement policies that will help to stabilize the economy and create jobs. (ILKHA)
