Turkish coast guard rescues irregular migrants off Izmir and Mugla coasts
In a series of events highlighting the ongoing challenges surrounding irregular migration, the Turkish Coast Guard has once again displayed their commitment to humanitarian efforts by rescuing a total of 61 irregular migrants off the coasts of Izmir and Mugla.
The migrants, who had been pushed back by Greek forces in five separate incidents, found themselves in perilous situations as they attempted to cross into Greece.
Off the picturesque shores of the Bodrum district in Mugla, Turkish Coast Guard vessels swiftly responded to distress calls and successfully rescued 61 irregular migrants who had been forced back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
The migrants, who had embarked on their journey in search of better opportunities, were met with treacherous conditions and the unwavering determination of the Turkish Coast Guard to ensure their safety.
Simultaneously, off the coast of Dikili district in Izmir, Turkish authorities apprehended a group of 87 irregular migrants in three separate incidents. These individuals, driven by aspirations for a new life, found themselves intercepted by Turkish forces as they navigated the challenging waters.
Following the rescue and capture operations, the irregular migrants were promptly transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. This step signifies Turkey's continued dedication to managing the complex issue of irregular migration responsibly and in accordance with international protocols.
