A 5.3 magnitude quake struck the Yeşilyurt district of Türkiye’s eastern Malatya province on Thursday, the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency announced on its website.

The earthquake occurred at around 20:48 TSI, with its epicenter at a latitude of 38.307 degrees north and a longitude of 38.204degrees east, and at a depth of 7 km.

The tremor was felt in nearby provinces, including Adıyaman, Elazığ, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır.

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties, according to local reports.

On February 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria.

The death toll in Turkey and Syria has passed 50,000, and many survivors are enduring near-freezing winter temperatures after having been left homeless by the earthquake in cities in both countries.

More than 30,000 aftershocks have occurred after the devastating earthquakes, according to AFAD. (ILKHA)
