Kan'ani made the remarks during his weekly press conference, in which he touched upon the US presence in the Strait of Hormuz. He said that Iran believes that ensuring the security of waterways and safe shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is one of Iran's priorities and should be carried out in the framework of joint cooperation between the coastal countries of the region.

"We believe that these countries have the capacity to provide common security in the region without any foreign intervention and extra-regional forces and to provide common interests and shipping security in this large strategic water area of the region," Kan'ani said.

He went on to say that the intervention of extra-regional countries under the pretext of maintaining security is a false slogan and is carried out with the aim of securing their selfish interests.

Kan'ani's remarks come as the US Navy has dispatched over 3,000 military personnel aboard two warships to the Middle East, following the recent announcement of reinforcement deployment on the pretext of deterring Iran's vessel seizures.

The troops arrived in the Red Sea on Sunday, onboard the USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall, as part of a pre-announced initiative by the Department of Defense, according to a statement released by the Navy. (ILKHA)
