The bus was carrying around 42 passengers, including individuals from India, the Dominican Republic, and various African nations. The majority of the passengers were foreigners, with some of them en route to the U.S. border.

The bus driver was detained by authorities in Nayarit state on suspicion of speeding around a sharp bend in the road, which may have caused the fatal crash. The identification process for the deceased was still underway at the time of the report in Thursday afternoon.

Approximately 20 injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with one woman's condition described as "delicate" by the state government. The bus involved in the tragic incident belonged to the Elite passenger line and crashed near Barranca Blanca on the highway outside the state capital, Tepic.

Rescue efforts have proven to be extremely challenging due to the depth of the ravine, which measures approximately 40 meters (131 ft). Despite the severity of the accident, neither the bus company nor Mexico's migration institute responded immediately to requests for comment.

This devastating event marks the second fatal bus crash in Mexico in recent times. Last month, 29 people lost their lives in a bus accident in the southern state of Oaxaca, while in February, a bus carrying migrants from South and Central America crashed in central Mexico, resulting in the death of 17 individuals.
