Google to launch new privacy tools to protect users
Google is launching new privacy tools to give users greater control over their personal images and ensure explicit or unwanted photos are not easily accessible in search results.
The updated policies will allow users to remove non-consensual and explicit images of themselves from Google search that they no longer wish to be visible. Even if an individual uploaded explicit content to a website in the past, they can now request its removal from search results. The process for submitting these requests has been simplified. However, the policy does not apply to images that users are currently actively commercializing.
The privacy tools also extend to websites containing personal information. Users will be able to access a new dashboard to identify search results displaying their contact information. They can then easily request the removal of such results from Google. Additionally, the dashboard will send notifications whenever new search results with the user's information appear.
A new blurring setting in SafeSearch will become the default for Google search users who do not already have SafeSearch filtering enabled. This setting will automatically blur explicit imagery, adult content, or violent images in search results. Users can choose to turn off this setting, unless they are supervised users on a public network with the setting locked as the default.
The new privacy tools are set to be launched globally in August. Google says the measures are designed to enhance user privacy and safety when using the search engine. (ILKHA)
