Russia: Severe weather in Volga claims 10 lives, injures 76
At least ten people have been killed and 76 others injured due to severe weather conditions in the Volga Federal District, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies said on Sunday.
The hazardous weather phenomena, including strong wind gusts reaching up to 27 meters per second, have been affecting eight regions within the Volga Federal District since July 29.
The most affected regions are the Republics of Tatarstan and Mariy El, the Chuvash Republic, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Kirov and Samara Regions, according to local reports.
The Ministry of Emergencies said that rescue workers have been deployed to the affected areas to help evacuate people and provide assistance to those in need.
The severe weather conditions are expected to continue in the Volga Federal District until Monday. (ILKHA)
